Developing Bamboo-Based Enterprises
for Sustainable Livelihood and Income Generation
in Ghana

Background and Key Components

This Triangular Cooperation Pilot extends technical expertise, knowledge, and experiences from India to promote and enhance the value of bamboo-based enterprises in Ghana. The cooperation aims to develop capacities for enterprises for income generation and economic prosperity, especially among youth and women. Targeted groups will be trained on adopting innovative design and product development skills along with financial and managerial skills to sustainably manage their enterprises.

Key components are skill and capacity development on innovative product design and enterprise development, support for establishment of an Innovation Hub and facilitation of a network and platforms for skill transfer.

Timeline
  • September 2022
    Pilot kick-off, after which women and youth were trained on product design

  • May 2023
    Delegation from Ghana visited India as part of a study trip, MoU was signed between National Institute of Design (NID) and the Forestry Commission Training Center (FCTC)

  • Next steps
    Procurement of tools and equipment for bamboo artisans and a closure event to present the learnings of the pilot to local stakeholders
